Approved by the Region of Sardinia the regional plan for the three-year period 2023-2025 relating to the planning of forecasting, prevention and active fight against forest fires.

"The Region has the task of promoting and facilitating risk prevention and mitigation actions, with the aim of reducing the number, extent and effects of forest fires - said the Councilor for the Defense of the Environment Marco Porcu -. Therefore, the contents of the Regional Fire Prevention Plan (Prai) are identified and the composition of the regional system is indicated, which involves Civil Protection, the Forestry Corps, Forestas, the Fire Brigade, voluntary organizations and fire barrier companies. Until today, both the regional plan approved last year and the departmental operational plans were in force, constantly updated, without any interruption or difficulty for the 2023 Fire Fighting Campaign".

To date , the data on fires recorded in the area show a decrease compared to the average of the last 10 years : -48% the absolute number; -71% the total area covered by fires; -92% the forest area covered by fires (updated on 13 July 2023).

«The Prai is an important regional planning document – added councilor Porcu – which is used to plan and coordinate the fire-fighting activities of all the components, institutional and non-institutional, which contribute, in different forms and fields, to the pursuit of the objectives. Emergency procedures, territorial monitoring activities and assistance to the population are defined within it. A reference document both for the entire regional civil protection system, which indicates the activities aimed at guaranteeing territorial security, risk prevention and management, and for the municipal administrations in civil protection planning".
