Fewer containers for used clothing and cameras to monitor uncivilized people. This is the policy decided by the Municipality of Nuoro, announcing a small but significant change to protect urban decorum and combat improper waste disposal practices. The new service organization comes after repeated incidents of all types of waste being dumped—not just clothing and used oil—next to dedicated bins, which have been transformed into veritable open-air landfills.
The note from the Municipality
"Near numerous roadside bins, we have, to our regret, encountered serious misconduct, with the abandonment of bulky items, household appliances, black bags, and household waste," explained Environment Councilor Marco Canu in a statement. "This waste has nothing to do with the proper disposal of textiles or oils."
For this reason, starting tomorrow, the administration will begin a reorganization of the service, removing street containers from the most critical locations and reducing and redefining the number of active locations, which will be fewer but more tightly controlled. Video surveillance systems will also be installed to combat illegal waste dumping, and waste collection at municipal recycling centers will be increased to ensure a traceable and safe alternative.
The first removals
The first phase of the intervention involves the removal of containers for used textiles and oil in various areas of the city: from Viale Sardegna (2 textile containers), Via Porrino (1 textile + 1 oil), Via Colombo (2 textiles), Via Catte, Anfiteatro area (1 textile + 1 oil).
No suspension
"The service will not be suspended," Canu clarified. "The residents of Nuoro will be able to continue disposing of used clothing and used oil at the municipal recycling centers in Funtana Buddia and Prato Sardo."
Greater vigilance
The administration also announced that surveillance of sensitive areas will be strengthened: "These measures," the councilor concluded, "are part of a broader plan that includes increased patrols by the municipal police and collaboration with the Forestry and Environmental Protection Corps, based on an upcoming agreement."
