Killed for money and jealousy, Speranza Ponti was murdered because she did not want to be the unconditional lender of her partner Massimiliano Farci and because she had resumed contact with her ex-husband, and Farci had noticed it.

This is the extreme synthesis of the reasons for the sentence of the Court of Assizes of Sassari dated 15 November 2022, with which life imprisonment (and 18 months of isolation) was inflicted on Farci (55 years old, from Assemini).

The judges retraced all the phases of the crime committed in Alghero and above all reconstructed, on the basis of what emerged in the trial, the background to the feminicide, also pointing out the points of contact between the murder of Speranza and that of Roberto Baldussi (killed in 1999) for which Farci was sentenced to life imprisonment.

In both cases, the motive is linked to the victims' availability of goods and money. The judges place the crime in time, accepting the thesis of the prosecutors Angelo Beccu and Beatrice Giovannetti, in the late evening of 5 December 2019. The relationship between Speranza Ponti and her partner was already in crisis due to the non-payments of salaries to the woman (who worked in the pizzerias in Farci). But Speranza's death sentence is Massimiliano Farci's discovery of some messages sent to the woman by her ex-husband.

The judges of the Assizes Court of Sassari (President Massimo Zaniboni) also write that the explanations provided by Farci (who has always claimed to have found his partner dead, hanged with a sheet) are without any foundation.
