An old car that sputtered and then caught fire: there were moments of fear on Friday afternoon for those passing through the S'Iscala tunnel on the 131 dcn highway near Budoni. But everything went smoothly thanks to the activation of the emergency plan by ANAS and the implementation of effective safety systems following recent renovations. Lawyer Daniel Rupeni, a lawyer from the Rome Bar Association, was traveling toward Siniscola when he was involved, albeit indirectly, in the accident.
"I realized the car was on fire when I was already inside the tunnel, and I started to feel sick because I suffer from claustrophobia," he says. "The first to provide assistance, even before the firefighters and traffic police arrived, were prison officers on an escort duty, whom I want to thank. Fortunately, the tunnel is equipped with all the necessary safety measures, and I was escorted to a room connecting the two tubes that was adequately ventilated."
Traffic diversion was limited, and, ANAS explains, "thanks to the timely intervention and effective safety systems, no other road users were injured or the tunnel suffered structural damage. Only minor damage to some ancillary elements was reported."
