Tragedy in Santa Caterina di Pittunuri, in the Oristano area .

A 66-year-old man died after being struck by a sudden illness while he was collecting limpets on the rocks, during an outing on a rubber dinghy near Capo Nieddu with his nephew and a friend.

After feeling ill, the man - Felice Beltrano, a retired resident of Cuglieri - ended up in the sea.

The alarm was raised by his nephew and his friend, who, while the pensioner was on the rocks, were engaged in a dive.

Once they surfaced , they saw the 66-year-old's body floating and immediately took him aboard the dinghy, trying to revive him.

The 118 helicopter rescue service arrived on the spot.

Doctors also attempted life-saving procedures on the beach of Santa Caterina, but unfortunately there was nothing for the pensioner to do .
