He had started as a boy in a barber shop and in front of him, still a teenager, the miners and workers of the young coal city that had arisen a few years before would sit down after a terrifying day of work to shave and hair.
Valerio Piras, one of Carbonia's first barbers, passed away two days ago at the age of 85. Family originally from Buggerru, they moved to Carbonia in the golden age of mining. And at the age of 14 Valerio Piras began carrying out tasks as a boy in the historic barbershop of Lillo Lombardo, the activity which later became his job as an adult in the salon in via Asproni. And which allowed him, by marrying Ornella Coccoda, to build a family (they had two sons and a daughter). The passion for work and for the barbershop, where generations of people from Carbonia have alternated, went hand in hand with that for sport. And for football in particular: he was a huge fan of Milan and Carbonia. In the home matches of the blue and whites, apart from the recent times and ailments due to age, his presence in the central stand of the Zoboli stadium was unmissable . And the competitions were punctually analyzed during the week in his salon between a fashionable cut and a classic one with the most loyal customers.
The funeral will be held today at 4.30 pm at the Gesù Divino Operaio church in via Mazzini.
