The Prefect of Cagliari, Giuseppe Castaldo, has adopted a circular explaining the new provisions on the placement and use of speed cameras.

Circular that became necessary after the approval of the inter-ministerial decree of 11 April last regarding the methods of placement and use of remote detection devices for violations of the rules of conduct referred to in art. 142 of the Highway Code.

The new decree assigns a central role to the Permanent Provincial Conference (Observatory), not only in identifying the sections of road on which it is possible to install speed cameras, but also in regulating the detection activities carried out by the traffic police.

In particular, it was reiterated that the installation of new speed detectors, both fixed and mobile, must be preceded by an in-depth investigation to be sent to the Prefecture for subsequent examination by the Permanent Provincial Conference responsible for identifying the roads on which the positioning of speed control devices is authorised.

Mayors and road network management bodies will also have to carry out a survey of the speed control detection devices in use to verify their compliance with the requirements of the new inter-ministerial guidelines, the results of which will be transmitted to the Prefecture by 31 January 2025.
