Gesico will host the first stage of the "Nel nome della Mamma" event on Saturday. The objective is to enhance Monte San Mauro, an identifying asset of the town and a point of reference and magical-religious meetings since ancient times for the territories of Trexenta, Marmilla and Sarcidano.
Everything was born from an idea of the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Gesico, in collaboration with the Antes Cooperative (management of the Gesico museum system), the parish, the internationally renowned archaeotechnician Alfio Tomaselli and Franco Camba, teacher of Science and History of Religions at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences Sassari/Tempio-Ampurias “Euromediterraneo”.
As stated in a press release from the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Gesico, «enhancing San Mauro, today a site of community interest, also means enhancing the entire Trexenta, land of worship of the Mother Goddess of Turriga (Selegas/Senorbì) replaced in continuity due to religious syncretism from the cult linked to the Virgin Mary today present in every country. But this topic will be discussed more fully in the second stage, on August 24, entitled "From the Mother Goddess to the Madonna: scenarios for new paths".
On Saturday, in the courtyard of the Casa Dessì museum, two experimental archeology workshops will be held with Alfio Tomaselli, intended for children aged 8 to 11 and 11 to 13. In the afternoon, at 4pm, excursion with guided visits to Monte San Mauro, in care of the Antes cooperative. This will be followed by a demonstration of experimental archeology in the cloister of San Mauro, again curated by Tomaselli. But what is it? As stated in the press release, «it is the attempt to reproduce, through experiments, in the material conditions as close as possible to the ancient ones, instruments, objects, buildings and to also reproduce the circumstances in which the same goods were degraded or destroyed. All this only with the help of natural materials, essential information and with identification with the period covered."
