In Sardinia even prisons risk being left without doctors. Those who work in Bancali (Sassari) are threatening to resign en masse, starting from next April 15th, due to the amount of hours worked and the grueling shifts to which they are subjected. Situation reported several times but never addressed.

«For some time I have reported the lack of medical personnel who should guarantee service to prisoners at all hours and including holidays, if there were emergencies», says the guarantor for prisoners, Irene Testa, «instead the doctors employed in prison are exactly half, a fact which not only causes great discomfort to the staff but above all puts the inmates in danger."

Doctors in prison must be active twenty-four hours a day and every day, including holidays, «since the prisoner is a person who has the same rights to health as all human beings. I hope", concludes Testa, "for an immediate solution, before arriving at a further degeneration of the situation".
