It was the then general manager of the University of Sassari Cristiano Nicoletti who reported the seven University employees for abusive access to the computer system for having consulted, in 2019, the data on the university career of the president of the Sardinia Region, Christian Solinas. The decision was taken after a discussion with the then rector Massimo Carpinelli.

Nicoletti was heard today in the courtroom as witnesses of the Public Prosecutor's Office in the ongoing trial in the Court of Sassari against the seven employees: Michele Meloni, Luigi Antonio Catogno, Paolo Deledda, Franca Carmela Sanna, Barbara Pes, Laura Mureddu and Liana Carboni . Process in which Solinas joined as a civil party, defended by the lawyer Salvatore Casula.

The former general manager answered questions from the prosecutor and the defense team made up of lawyers Nicola Satta, Camilla Pirino, Nicola Andrea Oggiano, Elias Vacca, Teresa Pes, Sebastiano Chironi, Nanni Campus, Maurizio Serra . He explained that after the publication of an article discussing Solinas' university career, he consulted with the dean and they decided to proceed with a lawsuit.

Nicoletti then emailed a technician from Cineca, the inter-university consortium that manages the computer network of the University of Sassari, asking for the names of the employees who had had access to the governor's file. Then on the evening of March 12, 2019, he filed a complaint in his name against those employees, accusing them of abusive access to the computer system.

That morning the rector signed a decree regulating the procedures for accessing the University's computer system, internal rules that did not exist before then. Neither the president Solinas, directly concerned, nor the privacy guarantor had been informed of the alleged abusive access to the data and of the lawsuit. The hearing was adjourned to October 12 for the examination of the seven defendants.
