Energy speculation, Mayor Zedda: «When people mobilize it is a positive thing»
The mayor of Cagliari at the meeting at the Fiera with Todde and the other administrators: The State is expropriating us of our prerogatives, we must defend ourselves"If the Meloni Government cared about protecting the national territory against speculation, it could intervene immediately to block the devastation of the environment". This is what the mayor of Cagliari, Massimo Zedda , said after today's meeting at the Fiera, which was attended by the mayors of Southern Sardinia for a discussion with the governor Alessandra Todde . On the agenda were the energy transition and the areas suitable and unsuitable for the installation of wind and photovoltaic plants in Sardinia.
Zedda also underlined how important it is to directly involve local authorities in the decision-making process regarding the installation of wind and photovoltaic plants, especially in a context in which such projects risk having a significant impact on the landscape and the environment. And on the decision to involve mayors in the face of ever more requests for wind and photovoltaic energy that risk ruining the environment, the mayor has no doubts: «It's right this way», he confirms. And although Cagliari is not directly involved in these developments , as is the case for some municipalities that are part of the Metropolitan City, it is not exempt from interests related to renewable energy : «The Gulf of Angels - Zedda pointed out - is the object of interest with regards to offshore wind power».
A key point raised by the mayor concerns the removal of authorization powers from the Regions, Municipalities and Local Authorities, which now belong to the State. For Zedda, in fact, a popular initiative would be desirable , even beyond the borders of Sardinia, to promote a referendum on public energy and restore such powers at a local level. Finally, he expressed concern about the management of regulations to protect the territory by the central government, criticizing the challenge of laws aimed at protecting local specificities and combating environmental speculation. A reference also to the Pratobello 24 law, a positive example of civic participation and environmental protection: «When thousands of people, disinterestedly, sign a proposal to protect the territory and against speculation, it is undoubtedly a positive fact».
