There are many requests for help that the Ukrainian consulate in Sardinia receives in these hours. In recent days, those who have relatives on the island have managed to leave the country, but today it can no longer be done.

Consul Anthony Grande explains that "the phone is hot": "Many families ask us how to get their loved ones to Sardinia, but no one expected this evolution: those who had already booked a flight to Italy could not leave today because the airspace over Ukraine is closed. We are receiving hundreds of requests for help and information. And we are ready to put ourselves at the service of those in need ".

Most of the Ukrainians, about sixty per cent, reside between Cagliari and the hinterland. "A fairly composite community - underlines the diplomat - The first generation was made up above all of carers and family assistants. Now I see 70-year-old Ukrainian women in Sardinia. Then there are the new arrivals, younger people, workers and entrepreneurs especially in the navigation sector in the north of the island. And there are many Sardinian-Ukrainian families who testify to good integration ".

People asking for help would especially like to know if the areas where their loved ones live have been bombed: “Unfortunately, I must say that this is not a localized attack, but rather extensive. We feel the closeness of the Sardinian people, an anti-war demonstration was immediately organized on Saturday: the Ukrainian community is a peaceful community ”. The appointment is in Piazza Garibaldi in Cagliari at 10, then off to the parade for the city. Organize the provincial coordination "Let's prepare peace" with the membership of associations and movements.
