Four and a half years of imprisonment for the former president of the Cagliari Chamber of Commerce Giancarlo Deidda , five years and four months for the former general secretary Luca Camurri , one year of imprisonment with conditional suspension for the official Simonetta Oddo Casano .

These are the sentences pronounced this morning by the panel of the second criminal section of the court of Cagliari, at the end of the trial of the former leaders of the capital's chamber of commerce.

However, the judges have reclassified various crimes, some declared time-barred, also pronouncing acquittals on various charges. Deidda and Camurri were convicted of embezzlement, Oddo Casano of forgery in collusion with the president. The former general secretary was also charged with defamation, while the two managers of the chamber of commerce were acquitted because of some abuses in the office and with the broader formula of mistreatment.

At the end of his indictment , the deputy prosecutor of Cagliari, Giangiacomo Pilia, had asked for three sentences : 8 years of imprisonment for the former president Giancarlo Deidda, 12 years for Camurri and 3 years for Oddo Casano. The Prosecutor's Office challenged in various capacities and each according to their alleged responsibilities, crimes ranging from embezzlement to abuse of office, but also forgery, mistreatment, damage, failure to report a crime and defamation.

The investigation was born in 2015 after a series of complaints on the use of the Chamber of Commerce credit card and the company car for non-institutional purposes, but also on the purchase of flowers intended for the Cagliari Trade Fair.

This morning the panel chaired by judge Giovanni Massidda read the sentence at the end of a long deliberation session. The defendants were defended by lawyers Patrizio Rovelli (Deidda), Gianluca Aste (Camurri) and Rita Dedola (Oddo Casano). The civil parties were assisted by various lawyers including Roberto Sorcinelli and Matteo Pinna.
