Fipe Confcommercio Sud Sardegna confirms Emanuele Frongia as president for the next five years. This renewed election comes after five years of intense work, during which the Federation has become a key regional voice on major issues concerning the restaurant industry, tourism, urban safety, and quality of life in cities.
Over the past five years, Frongia has led the Federation through a context marked by significant challenges: from managing the pandemic emergency to resuming operations, from energy costs to the cost crisis, to urban safety issues, the nightlife, staff shortages, and delays in local policies on waste, water, transportation, and public space planning.
Under Frongia's presidency, a statement reads, "the federation has advanced numerous initiatives, including: campaigns for safety and legality, with ongoing discussions with the Prefecture and the Municipality of Cagliari; the promotion of more sustainable and accessible catering, including through social projects like Seconda Chance and initiatives against food waste; the defense of the sector against unfair practices, fake reviews, and contract piracy, with the presentation of the first National Anti-Dumping Manual in Cagliari; active support for businesses in times of crisis, such as blackouts, water shortages, and logistical difficulties that have penalized bars and restaurants; the strengthening of local representation with the creation of the Women Entrepreneurs Group of FIPE Southern Sardinia; and the launch of the Manifesto for the Cagliari of the Future, a call for shared growth for the city."
This re-election "is a commitment, not a prize," Frongia states. "Our region has all the credentials to become a national model for catering and hospitality, but clear decisions are needed regarding safety, mobility, decorum, urban planning, and access to employment. Transportation is the biggest issue today; it concerns everyone. The internal market is not enough to develop a region focused on tourism. This is one of the key issues that FIPE will strive to influence wherever possible. We will continue to work closely with the institutions to provide certainty to businesses and build a vision that truly enhances Cagliari and Southern Sardinia."
A key sector for the island's economy. The public service sector is one of the driving forces of the island's economic and social life: 1,200 businesses operate in the capital alone, a €265 million turnover in Cagliari, a demand for staff that reaches nearly 3,000 during peak periods, and a closure crisis that has seen 345 bars close in one year on the island. These numbers reveal a sector that is crucial not only to the economy, but also to the quality of the urban fabric and the region's tourism competitiveness.
