Email and social media are the tools most exposed to cyber breaches: a trend that continues in Sardinia. In fact, approximately one in two people on the island has experienced or suspected a cyber attack on their online profiles. The greatest concern is the potential financial damage (53%), followed by the risk of personal data being used for illegal purposes (46%). Sardinians are increasingly connected, but also more vulnerable: approximately eight in ten fear the dangers of digital technology. This is what emerges from the latest survey by the Sara Assicurazioni Observatory.

Email (13%), e-commerce sites or online shopping apps (12%), and social networks (10%) are the most affected channels, followed by bank accounts or payment apps (8%). Cyberbullying is perceived as a real risk, especially among young people: more than one in ten respondents (13%) say they know someone who has been a victim. In terms of preventing this phenomenon, the majority of Sardinians attribute a key role to families (58%) and schools (46%), as well as to empowering children themselves (33%) and increasing monitoring by social media platforms (29%).

Yet, despite their fears, more than eight in ten Sardinians (87%) are unaware of the existence of insurance policies designed to protect against data theft, hacker attacks, or cyberbullying. However, approximately one in three (30%) say they might consider one for protection. Among the main reasons are coverage for expenses in the event of digital fraud (25%), a sense of security (20%), legal protection (19%), and protection from parental liability for any damage caused by their minor children online (8%).
