Meat, cured meats and dairy products, contained in the luggage of non-EU travelers and without suitable health certification and the prescribed labelling.
In just over a month, the officials of the Cagliari Customs Office seized fifty-six kilos of products of animal origin at the Elmas airport.
The goods come from Kyrgyzstan, Morocco and the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic. In 2022 alone, 232 kilograms of similar products had been seized, sent for destruction as dangerous to human health.
The national and EU health legislation provides, explains the Agency, that the introduction of products of animal and vegetable origin into the territory of the European Union is allowed only if with a valid health certification issued by the Health Authority of the country of production, providing the seizure and destruction in the event that they are devoid of them or are accompanied by health documentation not recognized as valid by EU legislation.
