«The wind turbine used in this project consists of a truncated cone tubular metal support tower, on top of which is installed the nacelle whose axis is 112 meters from ground level with the attached rotor with a diameter of 175 metres, for a maximum overall height of the tower-blade system of 200 meters above the ground". Here is the detail of the "Isili Wind" project of the company Scs 20 Srl of Monopoli for the construction of a wind farm consisting of 11 wind turbines in the territories of Isili and Villanova Tulo.

The Ministry of the Environment has just published the documentation filed for the environmental impact assessment. And the first observations have already arrived. Contrary.

The area identified for the construction of yet another wind farm is 1.5 km from the town of Isili and 1.9 from Villanova Tulo. The site can be reached from the SP 52 provincial roads, from the SS 128 state road, as well as from numerous inter-farm roads.

The engineers who prepared the reports maintain that the plant must be seen «not only as an induced modification to the landscape, but also as a “fulcrum” of notable benefits understood both in environmental terms (reduction of emissions into the atmosphere for example) and in terms

occupational and social, because it is a source of countless opportunities for growth and work". In short, the thesis that should "entice" the Sardinians is: yes, the landscape changes, but wind turbines provide jobs.

The mayor of Villanova Tulo, Alberto Loddo, thinks differently. He filed his observations yesterday. A resolution from its council has arrived at the ministry: it states that «the project takes no account of the serious plague of fires that Sardinia suffers every year. The presence of wind turbines over 200 meters high would also pose enormous risks for air navigation, due to the danger of collisions between the wind turbines and the helicopters and planes involved in extinguishing any fires that might break out in the municipal area. The presence of wind turbines of this size would make the operations of the aforementioned aircraft difficult, if not impossible, considered the only truly useful means in fighting fires, forcing pilots to perform extremely complicated maneuvers and effectively making interventions in the entire area impossible. affected as well as impervious in all the surrounding areas". And there, where the shovels should rise, the fire just passed.
