Drought alarm continues on the island. And with the levels of the Bidighinzu and Temo reservoirs having "now registered a drastic reduction in available supplies," as Abbanoa explains in a press release, a water emergency has been triggered, with rationing in northwestern Sardinia.
The measures, as highlighted in recent weeks during the crisis discussion initiated by the Region, also affect drinking water and are aimed at preventing a complete shutdown of the supply in the affected municipalities.
The situation is being constantly monitored by all stakeholders: Abbanoa, the Sardinian Water Authority (Enas), the Sardinian Hydrographic District Agency (Adis), and the Sardinian Regional Government Authority (Egas). The Single Manager has also established a permanent consultation table with the municipalities to address the crisis and find all possible solutions to limit the inevitable disruptions caused by service interruptions.
Here, then, is the list of restrictions:
Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 22nd , nighttime service closures will begin from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. in Alghero ; on Sunday the 26th, Tuesday the 28th, Wednesday the 29th, and Thursday the 30th, nighttime service closures will be in the Sassari neighborhoods served by the Via Milano reservoir: Lu Fangazzu, San Paolo, San Giuseppe, Monserrato, Tingari, Monte Rosello Medio, Sassari 2, Porcellana Alta, Badde Pedrosa, Valle Gardona, and Gioscari . The closures will be repeated on the same days of the week in November.
Possible night-time closures could also affect Stintino and Porto Torres : currently, the reserves in the tanks in the first town and the supply from local wells in the second make it unnecessary, also because seasonal demand is decreasing.
Night closures will also be in place from Wednesday 22nd to Friday 31st October in the municipalities of Sorso, Sennori, Ittiri, Ossi, Bosa and Macomer.
Starting Saturday, November 1st, water closures will be in place every other day , with 24 hours of service followed by 24 hours of service interruption, as follows and in the following municipalities: service on even days of the month in Ossi, Sennori, Sorso, Thiesi, Usini, and Bosa; service on odd days of the month in Bonorva, Ittiri, Ploaghe, Tissi, Uri, and Macomer.
Based on need, Abbanoa will activate a replacement service with water tankers . In collaboration with municipal administrations, all sensitive users, such as schools or healthcare facilities, requiring ad hoc supplies to ensure continuity of service, will also be identified. Additional support will be provided through the distribution of individual water supplies in easily transportable containers: a service aimed at, for example, assisting the elderly who cannot refill their water from the water tankers available on the streets.
Abbanoa, in conjunction with the municipal administrations, is also starting to investigate alternative supply sources, such as wells and springs , which could meet the needs of the centers and limit or in some cases eliminate the planned restrictions.
For any needs, Abbanoa recommends users contact the toll-free number 800.022.040, active 24 hours a day, and follow the updates on the organization's social media and website.
