A day of (extra)ordinary chaos in Cagliari's emergency rooms.

Dozens of requests for assistance to the 118 operations center, hospital staffing levels below critical, departments overbooked, and beds lacking. And all it takes is one emergency, unexpected like this, for the system to crash.

Just like today. Whether at the Policlinico, Brotzu, or Santissima Trinità, the scene was identical that evening: dozens of ambulances parked in the yards, waiting to deliver the patient to the healthcare facility. Some stretchers remained in the warm rooms outside the facilities. And some crews from various cooperatives and associations had to wait up to eight hours before being able to return to the streets to respond to the next call for help.

By the evening, the pressure had eased, but not by much. Just look at the situation at Duilio Casula Hospital at 9 p.m.: three red codes, 18 orange, 17 blue, 15 green, and two white. These numbers correspond to people. Except for the most serious cases, who have priority, everyone is on hold.
