Don Mario Farci is the new dean of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia. He is the first diocesan priest to hold this office, the Diocese of Cagliari says, starting from the foundation of the same academic center in 1927, and he is also the first Sardinian ever to have this office, both for what concerns the period in which the Faculty was located in Cuglieri, until 1970, and both in the current seat of Cagliari.

Don Farci, successor of the Jesuit Father Francesco Maceri, says he received the news "with joy and gratitude, but also with concern because the task that awaits me is certainly not the easiest".

With the new diocesan Dean, therefore, the Society of Jesus after 95 years no longer exercises the direction of the Faculty. In addition to continuing its didactic and administrative commitment, from this year, as required by the new Statutes, the Compagnia assumes responsibility for the Faculty together with the Sardinian Episcopal Conference and in support of the latter.

The new Dean will officially take office on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Academic Year of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia, to be held on Tuesday 18 October 2022, preceded at 5 pm by the Mass presided over by the Grand Chancellor and concelebrated by the Sardinian bishops in the Cristo Re church in Cagliari. .

Don Mario Farci is engaged in the Diocese with various positions, the last in order of time: diocesan referent of the Synodal Way. Former director of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences from 2010 to 2020, the presbyter is also archiepiscopal delegate for the permanent diaconate office and ministries Established since 2004, chaplain at the Sant 'Antonio nursing home in Cagliari, director of the Office for 'Ecumenism and Dialogue.
