He had disappeared into thin air two years ago and it was feared he had been the victim of an ambush. But Sandro Arzu, 56 years old from Arzana , had started a new life in Cagliari: and here, this morning, in the area of Viale Elmas, he was captured by the Carabinieri of the investigative unit of the provincial command. The soldiers, in great silence, were following a lead and at the first misstep committed by Arzu, the blitz was launched.

The man – with a checkered judicial past, a recent conviction on appeal for drugs and some already served for murder – was stopped while he was out on an errand. An operation coordinated by prosecutors Rita Carriello and Danilo Tronci. Now Arzu, assisted by lawyers Francesco Marongiu and Rita Dedola, is in the barracks on via Nuoro .

In March 2023 he disappeared into thin air. His phone was silent and he had not returned home. A massive search was launched and a few days later his car was found riddled with gunshots and blood inside. At the time he was not subject to any restrictive measures, but he was required to stay in Arzana .

In 2021, a hitman had attempted to kill him in the countryside of the country. He had been grazed. Now the twist with the discovery in Cagliari .

The Carabinieri also accompanied another man to the barracks: his position is being examined by the Prosecutor's Office. The operation was delicate because, as emerged from the check, Arzu had with him a clandestine weapon.
