Death of Brigitte Pazdernik, her husband returns to his cell: "It was induction to suicide"

For Giovanni Perria the doors of the Massama prison are reopened. The Court of Cassation rejected both the appeal of the general prosecutor's office (which asked for confirmation of the 24-year sentence for voluntary homicide ) and that of the defense who instead requested acquittal or referral of the documents to the preliminary investigation phase. The verdict of the Cagliari Court of Assizes of Appeal therefore remains valid, which in November 2021 had sentenced Brigitte Pazdernik's husband to 8 years for induction to suicide .

The man continues to plead innocent but the verdict goes in a completely different direction. The reasons will be known in 90 days, but the appeal judges had already drawn a precise picture that had overturned the accusation. The woman drowned in the waters of the Oristano coast in October 2018 had somehow been "helped" to take her own life by that authoritarian husband who had always had a great influence over her. So much so that he managed to convince her to enter the water and let herself die in the sea . According to the judges, it was her husband who accompanied her to the sea on a rainy and windy night and did not prevent her from taking her own life .

The lawyer Antonello Spada, on the other hand, has always maintained Perria's innocence, recalling that the autopsy had already ascertained the death of the 79-year-old of German origin by drowning. And she insisted on the hypothesis of suicide, recalling that Brigitte herself had confided in her best friend her intention to end it all.

Now the lawyer announces an appeal to the Court of Review, arguing that Perria's health conditions would not be compatible with the prison system, also in light of his advanced age and numerous ailments.

History

It all started on the night between 10 and 11 October 2018 when Perria reported the disappearance of his wife, claiming that she had gone away alone . The searches started, the whole country had mobilized to track down the woman who seemed to have disappeared into thin air. Then a few days the discovery of his body, lifeless in the sea of Su Pallosu. The autopsy confirmed that the woman had died of drowning, no signs of violence on the body . Suspicions immediately focused on her husband, in his story there would have been many contradictions. Then in January 2019 the arrest on charges of voluntary homicide . According to the investigators at the basis of everything there would have been an obsession harbored for forty years by her husband for an old betrayal . A jealousy that exploded that October night in front of a TV program and culminated with the tragic end at the sea.
