The strong increase in energy costs is also putting a strain on the balance sheet of families and businesses in Sardinia .

In the sector of so-called energy- intensive activities - those with a high consumption of electricity and gas - the increase in costs can become unsustainable to the point of putting at risk a significant portion of the regional economy.

On the island today there are 707 companies with high energy consumption which, due to price increases, risk having to close their doors. These local units employ 5,327 people , mostly attributable to the manufacturing sector. This is what emerges from the dossier of the Cna Sardegna Study Center which refers to the requirements for access to the concessions for energy-intensive companies envisaged by the Ministerial Decree of 21 December 2017 , to quantify the companies at risk.

"The growth in energy costs and the particular fragility of Sardinian companies, mainly characterized by medium-small and very small dimensions, make the issue of energy production from renewable sources for self-consumption even more strategic", comment Luigi Tomasi and Francesco Porcu , president and regional secretary of the Cna.

«In such a context – they continue – initiatives by the public administration aimed at promoting the reduction of energy bills, also with the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the warehouses, would be more strategic than elsewhere, also with a view to an all-round relaunch of competitiveness of the Sardinian entrepreneurial fabric. We ask the Region that a 50% tax credit be established for the three-year period in the next budget for the costs incurred for the installation of photovoltaic systems in industrial and artisanal buildings. With 25 million euros a year for three years of public resources, the consumption of about 1500 SMEs adhering to the initiative would be reduced by 22%, with an energy saving of 4.5% of the entire manufacturing sector».
