Tears and pain in Santadi for the death of Stefano Nonnis , the 42 year old worker who fell yesterday morning from a scaffold suspended on the Saras pier and drowned .

“I saved myself and he didn't make it. I had to die, not my son ”, the words of his father Sergio, at the news that his boyfriend had died in that horrible way. Many years ago he too had experienced the horror of a fall into the void , falling from a scaffolding on a construction site, but after a long period in a coma he opened his eyes again .

«He was the classic good guy, well-liked for his heart of gold - recalls the mayor of Santadi, Massimo Impera - he had a beautiful character and was very present in the life of the community because he was very attached to our traditions. He loved his job which he had undertaken for several years, we cannot explain what could have happened ».

THE ACCIDENT - The tragedy took place yesterday shortly before 9:30 , in the south pier of the plant: the worker, who worked on behalf of a contract company, Turismar , fell from a height of just a meter and a half , but perhaps panicked and weighed down by safety shoes and work clothes, he was unable to swim to safety. The attempts to rescue the colleagues were useless. The body was recovered an hour later by the men of the Port Authority and by the firefighters to be transferred to the University Polyclinic of Monserrato for autopsy examinations.

THE STRIKE - Today in front of the gates of the refinery the assembly and the metalworkers' strike called by Cgil, Cisl and Uil to protest against yet another death at work. The leaders of Saras, in a note, explain that they await the development of the investigations to reconstruct the causes of the accident. THE INQUIRY - The Cagliari prosecutor has opened a file , currently against unknown persons, with the prosecutor Diana Lecca who has put at the bottom the hypothesis of the crime of manslaughter .

The prosecutor Diana Lecca has ordered the autopsy, which will be carried out on Friday morning by the medical examiner Roberto Demontis: the goal is to understand if Nonnis had an illness that made him lose his balance or if he simply slipped into the sea.
