A crow positive for Nile Fever, a starling for Usutu Virus. Both cases in Oristano. The crow was found dead in Pardu Accas, the starling in the center of the city.

«The situation is under control, the precautions to be taken remain valid for citizens, already communicated to prevent infections of the Nile Fever virus», explains the director of the Animal Health Service of ASL 5 Enrico Vacca.

The Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia communicated the two infections to the ASL of Oristano, confirmation from the national center of Teramo is now awaited.

Two people, a 72-year-old from Siamanna and a 51-year-old from Siamaggiore, tested positive for West Nile: the first is still hospitalized, his conditions are unchanged, the second is fine. In July, a group of mosquitoes caught in a trap in Torregrande and two crows shot by a hunter in the same spot in the Solarussa area tested positive for West Nile. At the beginning of September a horse tested positive for the virus in Paulilatino. A month ago, however, a group of mosquitoes, captured in the area of the San Martino hospital in Oristano, tested positive for the Usutu virus.

Last year 8 human cases of West Nile in the Oristano area, four of which were fatal. The lesser-known Usutu virus is also capable of causing mortality in some bird species and symptoms in humans. It is also transmitted between birds and humans via infected mosquitoes. In humans it causes asymptomatic forms, influenza, and in very rare cases serious meningo-encephalitis.
