The Court of Cassation annulled by statute of limitations the sentence of conviction of the mayor of Olbia, Gianni Giovannelli, and of two municipal managers, Antonello Zanda and Giuseppe Budroni, accused of the six deaths of the 2013 flood .

The judges canceled the decision of the Court of Appeal of Sassari which had inflicted two years' imprisonment on the mayor and one year and eight months on the managers. The lawyers Franco Coppi, Nicola Di Benedetto, Agostinangelo Marras, Jacopo Merlini and Pasquale Ramazzotti, defenders of the three, had asked for acquittal on the merits.

The trial concerns the deaths of Anna Ragnedda, Francesco Mazzoccu, Enrico Mazzoccu, Patrizia Corona and Morgana Giagoni .

Now the complex issue of compensation begins . The families of the victims, assisted by Domenico Putzolu, Giampaolo Murrighile, Elias Vacca, Danilo Mattana, Mario Perticarà and Alexander Russo, could take civil action with a new lawsuit .
