A rare 30 kilo high sail female specimen, about two meters wide, killed by a spearfisherman . It happened in Torre del Pozzo , a seaside village of Cuglieri, triggering the reactions of the bathers.
Similar to the ray, it is a protected species, considered at risk of extinction : the group of Divers for West Coast Science has asked for the intervention of public bodies, so that they take action to inform the population, even with signs close to the coasts.
Furthermore, the animal was pregnant, with seven puppies in her womb : «Before dying», explains marine biologist and diver Daniele Grech, « the animal managed to expel them, allowing them to reach the sea. We monitored them for a few days and it seems that, after a small phase of stunning, they left the bay where they came to light and we really hope that at least they can save their lives".
