Crowd in Alghero for Carles Puigdemont, greeted by applause and hugs on the street by the many people present in the city on the occasion of the folklore festival organized by Adifolk. The former president of the Catalan Generalitat made his first public appearance in the square of Porta Terra and from there he walked to the port, the final destination of the parade in costumes typical of the different cities of Catalonia.

Few words addressed to the journalists, with whom he assured his friendship with Italy and Sardinia and postponed any consideration to a press conference that should be held this afternoon. Then the embrace with his people and the emotion when someone sang the Catalan anthem.

"I'm fine, I'm like home here", he said as he reached the representative office of the Municipality to meet the mayor, Mario Conoci.

In the morning he had a meeting with institutional representatives of Catalonia to take stock of the situation together with the lawyer Agostinangelo Marras who attended yesterday's validation hearing (on October 4, the possible extradition will be discussed).

"We are in Europe (Puigdemont is also an MEP colleague) and we should think more and more in a logic of Regions (or States) of Europe, rather than in a logic of nineteenth-century National States - meanwhile the Greens MEP wrote on Facebook / EFA Ignazio Corrao - I see Catalonia, as well as my Sicily, or Galicia and Sardinia that have adopted me, as Regions of Europe, and I am ashamed that in Sardinia he was arrested and taken to prison yesterday , in Sassari (to then be released pending trial), on the basis of a suspended and therefore illegal arrest warrant from the Spanish state, the President of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont i Casamajó. I don't know what Italy and Spain wanted to demonstrate with this act, but what is certain is that Puigdemont's civil rights are guaranteed in other European states, such as Belgium, where the colleague has lived for years and where Spain's extradition requests are considered excessive and incompatible with the rule of law ". And finally, adds Corrao, "the absurd thing about this story is that he was arrested right in Sardinia, the only region where he governs a party that in theory should be autonomist and identity but which in reality is only the small valley on the island of parties of Roman power. And if tomorrow Sicily and Sardinia claim the autonomy that is denied them, undergoing repression by the central power (as has happened several times in history), who would the citizens be with? ".
