A large wild boar suddenly crossed State Road 195 near the Saras refinery, just as several cars were passing by: the collision was inevitable. The latest road accident caused by a wild boar has risked causing new victims.
The danger
The collision occurred around 11:30 pm on Monday in the Sarroch area, where the route follows a curve before the straight road that leads to the town . The animal, which had come down into the valley as is increasingly the case in search of water and food, was hit by a Smart driven by a girl, and then ended up under the wheels of a Hyundai Tucson and an Audi A3. The three drivers got away with a big scare, the small utility vehicle that first hit the wild boar was seriously damaged, and it died after repeated impacts with the tyres of the vehicles. The Carabinieri from the Pula station, led by Marshal Bruno Caruso, and the officers from the town's Barracellare company, assisted by Captain Alessio Girau, intervened on the scene.
The precedents
It is not the first time that a wild boar has been trampled on State Road 195 near the refinery: there have already been four collisions in the last year practically at the entrance to the town. "Finding a wild boar a few meters from the refinery is not unusual - explains Alessio Girau -, the collisions practically always occur in the same place, near a canal where wild animals come to drink . It is now difficult to keep track in this area of how many road accidents are caused every year by the sudden crossing of wild boars, deer and fallow deer: traveling on this road is becoming increasingly dangerous.
The Municipality
The mayor, Angelo Dessì, explains how the repeated appeals from the local governments have had no effect: « We are tired of repeating the same things over and over again, despite the repeated reports and our growing concern, the institutions pretend to find solutions, but in the meantime the population of ungulates continues to grow . After a drought like this one, it is understandable that wild animals in search of food and water push themselves down into the valley, which is why it is necessary (also) to return to taking care of the woods and mountains. Solving the problem means giving back safety to those who travel these roads, but also freeing farmers from the burden of having to build high fences to protect crops».
