The situation worsens following the violent road accident on state highway 129 , at kilometer 60, between Orotelli and the locality of S'Iffurcau , where a Renault Clio and a Volkswagen Golf collided head-on. The accident claimed the life of a 78-year-old man, a resident of Bosa.

Four people were involved in the crash, all trapped inside the vehicles. Firefighters, arriving from Nuoro, extricated the occupants and then handed them over to the emergency medical personnel . The 78-year-old man was traveling in a Renault Clio, driven by a fellow citizen. The man arrived alive at the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro, where paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to revive him for over half an hour before pronouncing him dead. Another occupant of the vehicles involved is hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the same hospital.

The other two injured were taken to the hospital with critical conditions, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The Volkswagen Golf was driven by a man living in Nuoro. The Carabinieri also responded to the scene to conduct investigations to reconstruct the accident and manage traffic. Traffic along the affected stretch of road was closed in both directions.
