For the first time since August 1, yesterday the bulletin issued by the Crisis Unit of the Region did not register coronavirus victims in Sardinia. But much more people die on Covid Island than in Lombardy: to make a comparison, out of 10 patients killed by the virus, 4 are Sardinians and 6 Lombard even though Lombardy has six times the inhabitants of the island.

The official figures were examined by the University Hospital of Cagliari-Monserrato and read by the director of the Analysis Laboratory, Ferdinando Coghe: from 18 August to 16 September, Covid-19 requested a tribute of 196 lives between Lombardy and Sardinia. 115 were in the region led by Milan and as many as 81 on the island, where the deaths were therefore just 34 fewer despite the population being one sixth compared to the Lombard one.

An average of 5.1 Lombard and 2.7 Sardinian died every day: 59% against 41% of the total of the two regions.

"As for the vaccinated population rate, Lombardy is over 80%, Sardinia 67.5%, so Sardinians are more vulnerable to the Covid-19 virus because they are less protected", is one of the explanations provided by the 'councilor Mario Nieddu. And Sardinia, after Sicily, is the region in which most people do not want to be vaccinated: "There are very few immunized people who die or end up in intensive care", Coghe recalls, also underlining: "We no longer have 500 infections a day thanks to vaccination campaign ".

But there are also other elements to take into consideration to explain why there are so many victims of the virus on the island and among these the efficiency of territorial medicine and the timing of diagnosis.
