Covid, hospitalization alarm in Sardinia: almost 50 in 24 hours
Thousands of daily infections. Experts: "The decline on the island will be seen in about a month"
Intensive care admissions are decreasing in Sardinia, but in the latest bulletin there have been as many as 46 new entries of Covid patients in the ordinary wards of hospitals.
A figure that is added to the new daily infections - more than three thousand in the latest update, of which over 2,400 diagnosed with antigen tests - and to the deaths: 7 in the last bulletin, but which in recent days have also reached 10 and 11 in the 24 hours.
In short, if in other areas of the country the so-called "peak" of the new wave driven by Omicron has already been exceeded and every parameter begins to descend, in Sardinia infections and hospitalizations are not yet marking the hoped-for decline.
This is because - explains Stefano Del Giacco, immunologist at the Duilio Casula Polyclinic in Cagliari and lecturer at the University of Cagliari - “once again in Sardinia the long wave of Covid is recorded about a month late. With us, this variant also came after compared to other regions. Thus we are witnessing a boom in cases when elsewhere they are decreasing ”.
Only at the end of February-beginning of March, therefore, should an effective decrease in new cases and hospitalizations begin, even on the island.
