Villasimius: A 56-year-old man was placed in emergency care after his car crashed off a bridge and into the Foxi River.

A road accident occurred this afternoon on provincial road 17, in Villasimius, at kilometer marker 35.

A 56-year-old driver lost control of his car, flying off the road and ending up a few meters under a small bridge over the Rio Foxi after knocking down the guardrail.

The man was rescued and taken to Brotzu Hospital with a red code due to the dynamics. He suffered multiple injuries.

The Carabinieri of Villasimius responded to the scene and conducted the required investigations. They are attempting to determine the cause of the accident: no other vehicles were involved. The firefighters of the Castiadas seasonal detachment were also on site.

Mechanical failure or microsleep cannot be ruled out. But for now, these are just hypotheses. The man was traveling alone.
