The president of Confcommercio Sud Sardegna, Alberto Bertolotti, and his colleague from Federalberghi, Fausto Mura, do not want to stand idly by as Luna Rossa leaves Cagliari after the clash with the Region for the first stage of the World Series, preparatory races towards the America's Cup ( HERE THE NEWS ).
"After the last painful years that have hit the sector, this decision would represent a serious step backwards, considering that the event would have had a decisive economic impact", explain the two representatives of the business associations, "Cagliari expects from 2020 to be the capital of the sailing and we had prepared for this before the Covid tragedy. The public resources available should be implemented and not reduced, in order to guarantee a strategic relaunch for the island's tourism and for the knowledge of Sardinia all over the world".
The position was taken by the Councilor for Tourism, Gianni Chessa, ready to remove the six million euros foreseen as funding for the formula one event at sea: «Like Confcommercio and Federalberghi Sud Sardegna, we ask the Regional Council to return to his dreaded decision, so that Cagliari - which we remember is also the base of Luna Rossa - can regain a leading role and not miss the appointment with the international parterre of the America's Cup, with all the consequent positive effects".
