A heated exchange erupted between the Brothers of Italy and the president of the Alghero Foundation, Graziano Porcu, after a comment appeared under a post by singer Raf. Porcu, in a tone deemed ironic, asked the artist if the December 29th concert in Alghero was confirmed, given that it hadn't been advertised on the singer's social media. The Brothers of Italy launched an attack.
What are we witnessing? A foundation president can't afford to check an artist's presence on Facebook. This is amateurish behavior that discredits offices, agencies, and the city's image. New Year's Eve is the winter's flagship event and requires serious planning. The mayor should clarify: is this the way Alghero is represented? No more constant improvisation.
The Foundation's response was harsh. "Boos for fiascos: an ironic comment turns into tragedy. It was a provocation, not an official invitation. Artists almost never publicize free events, even if they're paid: neither Raf nor Gabry Ponte mentioned Alghero. Defending the city's image doesn't mean lacking professionalism. The president puts his face on the line, without posturing. If it's annoying that he responds on Facebook, perhaps the problem is the consistently indignant readership. Alghero deserves seriousness, but also authenticity and less dramatization. Contracts aren't made on social media: controversies are, and they succeed very well."
