A summer of tight controls in the heart of Sardinia's eastern coast. Carabinieri officers from the Nuoro Provincial Command combed through approximately one hundred non-hotel accommodation facilities—primarily bed & breakfasts and vacation rentals—uncovering a slew of irregularities: 48 businesses were targeted, fined nearly €90,000, and three owners reported to the judicial authorities.
The inspections, carried out in the most popular tourist destinations —from San Teodoro to Budoni, from La Caletta to Dorgali—were aimed at ensuring tourist safety and ensuring the integrity of the hospitality industry.
Some were operating completely illegally, without permits or requirements, some ignored safety requirements such as fire extinguishers and gas detectors, and some failed to communicate guest details to the authorities.
There have been cases of properties without insurance, businesses advertising online under a name other than their registered one, or listing fewer rooms than they actually had available.
On several occasions, the Carabinieri found that the price list or mandatory identification codes (CIN and IUN) were not displayed, in addition to the systematic failure to communicate statistical data to the Region and ISTAT.
In one case, in Budoni, an illegal business was immediately closed down , while in La Caletta and San Teodoro, serious safety violations were reported.
