Chaos outside the San Gavino Emergency Room: "Patients on stretchers and ambulances blocked"
Another alarm over beds in Sardinian hospitals, with 118 operators forced to wait outside for someone to become availablePer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Five ambulances stopped outside the hospital, with patients waiting for an appointment and vehicles in line. This is the situation that patients and 118 operators are experiencing in these hours outside the San Gavino Emergency Room. Everything is stopped, nothing can be done: there are no more beds, so they remain outside, in the square, on board the vehicle. A situation that forces those who need to be examined to remain in the ambulance until a hospital bed becomes available.
A script that, some 118 volunteers say, was also played out last night with the Nuraminis and Guspini ambulances that waited for hours to continue the service with other rescues, in vain. The Nuraminis team – for example – remained stationary from one to eight thirty in the morning.
"When this happens, usually in the fourth hour of stopping, the ambulances ask the station if it is possible to send another base to take over. The patient is transferred from one stretcher to another and an ambulance is freed up." But last night this was not possible: no vehicles were available. Result? The districts of Nuraminis, Guspini, Sanluri and Barumini were without an ambulance.
