705 people fined in Sassari , from January 1st to November 10th , for using their cell phones while driving . This was reported by data transmitted by the local police , which certify a growth of more than 30 percent compared to the whole of 2023 , in which there were 457 fines.

Increased controls therefore, but also increased illicit activities which sometimes lead to serious accidents.

In the city, mirroring the national trend, the percentage is 91 percent of the total causes ascertained by the officers, and increasingly distracted driving is directly related to the use of the cell phone.

The Municipal Police continues, to stem the phenomenon, with surveillance and the “Smartphone Zombie” campaign against the use of cell phones while crossing the street. There were eighteen fines issued in 2024, 32 in 2023. 1228 interventions by the Local Police for as many accidents since the beginning of the year, of which 606 with injuries; 3 fatal accidents along urban and local roads and one, detected by the Carabinieri, on state roads, which led to the death of three people. To which are added 74 people hit. The road accidents detected by the Local Police of Sassari in all of 2023 were 1330.

Fines are increasing for anyone not wearing seat belts , a behavior that does not represent a trigger for road accidents but which affects the severity of injuries suffered by those involved in accidents: 309 fines in the first ten months of 2024, 145 disputes in all of 2023.
