Rat poison could be the cause of the death of three cats found near the wooden nativity scene set up in front of the Basilica of San Gavino in Porto Torres . The nasty surprise yesterday morning, in the Monte Agellu neighborhood, when one of the residents discovered the poor animals now lifeless, lying in the straw placed around the nativity scene. Dismay and indignation on the part of citizens who wonder why there is so much cruelty.

The felines were part of the San Gavino cat colony , authorized and managed by two local residents, two people who took care of them. «A serious fact that we intend to report to the police , – declares Emanuela Fanari, president of the Anime Feline association – these facts cannot happen and certainly do not leave the majority of citizens indifferent. But whoever committed this insane act cannot go unpunished. Only a few days ago we signed a three-year agreement with the municipal administration to manage the cat colony. The aim is to spread the culture of animal welfare, carry forward the fight against stray animals and encourage adoptions."

Evidently there is still a lot of work to be done to prevent episodes of this type from happening. The Anime Feline association will ask the zookeepers or the Barracella company to intervene to clean up the area.
