Also (part of) Capoterra , from April 1st, becomes part of the Municipalities that entrust the management of the water service to Abbanoa. Almost 6,000 users in the city centre, the Santa Rosa, Residenza del Poggio, Picciau subdivision, Residenza del Sole and Cooperativa Mille areas are affected. The other subdivisions on the coast will continue to have autonomous management.

Thus ends, the water management company let us know, «a story that had been dragging on for several years: an important result achieved by the current Abbanoa Board of Directors, led by the president Franco Piga. Since its birth in December 2005, Abbanoa has steadily increased the number of managed Municipalities which have increased from around 250 to the current 347 with the addition of Capoterra. Then there are a further 12 Municipalities with autonomous management, but supplied by Abbanoa at the mouth of the tank as regards the water resource».

The transfer of management took place on the basis of the law which provides that autonomous management of the integrated water service is possible only in mountain municipalities with a population of less than 1000 inhabitants or in those which simultaneously present the following characteristics: water supply from high-quality sources , springs falling in natural parks or protected natural areas.

Capoterra does not meet any of the requisites envisaged by the legislation and, therefore, the governing body of the area (Egas) has ordered the transfer of the integrated water service to the Sole Operator of the Sardinia area (Abbanoa).

Capoterra's entry into the single area is accompanied by an important action plan which in a few years will lead to a radical renewal of the water-potable and sewage networks. Are expected:

  • the replacement of approximately 15 km of water network;
  • the reconstruction of a large part of the sewage system;
  • the safety of water and sewage systems;
  • the introduction of modern remote control and remote reading systems;
  • the replacement of current meters with more advanced, precise and certified instruments in accordance with current legislation.
