Strengthening the sense of belonging to Capoterra thanks to the notes and words of an anthem: the Municipality strongly supports the adoption of a song that represents local history and culture and is ready to evaluate the works of composers.
Three proposals have arrived from musicians ready to make their talent available for the creation of an anthem to be played at public ceremonies and institutional meetings. The technical commission will include Massimiliano Pani, current director of the Civic School of Music and professor at the Cagliari Conservatory; Antonio Leoni, expert in traditional Sardinian music and singing; and Veronica Maccioni, music educator, pianist, composer, singer and expert in Sardinian musical culture.
The municipal administration, in short, is serious and is ready to adopt an anthem that reawakens the love of the Capoterra residents for their town. "We believe a lot in this project - explains the mayor, Beniamino Garau -, the idea of creating an anthem capable of telling the history, traditions and culture of Capoterra comes from the need to deliver to future generations something capable of testifying to the passion of the citizens for their territory. There are aspects of the local culture that we would never want to be lost, we are convinced that an anthem - if well written and set to music - can strengthen the feeling that unites us to the place where we were born and raised".
A commission of highly valued experts was chosen to evaluate the proposals. "To identify the best work, we relied on three highly competent people," Garau assures, "thanks to their contribution we will be able to find the anthem that best embodies the spirit of Capoterra. There have been many sterile controversies surrounding this project, but I would like to point out that the artists will not receive a single euro: the anthem will be created at zero cost, and will be played during cultural events organized by the Municipality. The chosen song will be recorded on a CD that we will donate to the children and young people of the schools."
The former mayor, Francesco Dessì, hopes that the chosen song properly tells the story of the territory : «Capoterra has always been a hotbed of poets, musicians, improvisers of Campidanese singing and writers, it would be wonderful if we could really find an anthem that, after the Italian and Sardinian ones, embodied the values of this territory».
