The provincial road 1 that connects Capoterra to Santadi has been closed for at least a month , with farmers and hunters unable to reach the San Leone mine area: the recent damage suffered by the Cirifoddi bridge due to bad weather has brought the mountain community to its knees .
Due to the sinkhole that formed on the bridge, the Metropolitan City closed the passage for safety reasons, a decision that did not please municipal administrators, farmers and hunters who were hoping for a solution that would not lead to the complete closure of the bridge.
Pietro Frongia, city councilor and hunter, raises the issue of those who, especially for work, can no longer use the only road in the area: "Closing it was a reckless decision, they didn't even leave space to walk across, it would have been enough to secure the bridge while waiting to carry out more important structural work, in this way they are bringing the breeders in the area to their knees. We are talking about a bridge that is a hundred years old, and has never had any problems, there was a collapse, but the structure is solid: the measure is in our opinion exaggerated".
With the Cirifoddi bridge, located in the Assemini countryside, closed, the only alternative would be the S'enna e sa craba road, which is prohibitive even for the most robust off-road vehicles . «First of all, you have to consider that that road – which would in any case lengthen the route by about fifteen kilometers – is closed behind a barrier by the Gutturu Frongia Park -, furthermore, having never been fixed, it is in such a state that crossing it is impossible for almost anyone. It is on these occasions that citizens ask themselves what sense it makes for Capoterra to be part of the Park, if the roads remain closed behind a barrier and are never fixed ».
The mayor, Beniamino Garau, focuses precisely on the closure of the park's roads: "I wonder how it is possible to make citizens accept the restrictions imposed, if they cannot even travel through these mountains. The barriers are unacceptable, they are the legacy of a thought that belongs to the past, according to which it was necessary to limit the usability of the routes to combat poachers . I do not agree with the decision of the Metropolitan City to completely close that bridge: a temporary restoration would have been enough, especially because we will have to wait for the arrival of a large pipe from the Peninsula".
Francesco Lilliu, deputy metropolitan mayor and delegate for Roads, clarifies the situation: «After the damage caused by the bad weather on October 28, we acted with the utmost urgency to repair that bridge. The tube made by a factory located outside the island will arrive within two weeks: in December it will finally be able to reopen to traffic. However, this is a temporary solution, because at a later date the bridge will be demolished and rebuilt».
