An excellent harvest, now in the home stretch well in advance of the past, in the Cagliari area.
Quantity and quality: the harvest in the wine growing area that embraces the municipalities of Sinnai, Settimo and Maracalagonis respects the most optimistic forecasts. Vermentino production was at least 20 percent higher than last year. Also good is the harvest of Chardonnay, another fine grape, and red wines: Monica, Cannonau, Sangiovese, Cabernet, Syrah.
"A harvest that is giving us good satisfaction", says Giuseppe Farci, president of the Cantina di Quartu, based in Maracalagonis, "Surely the harvest in our enopoly will reach, and perhaps exceed, eight thousand quintals. The harvest will continue for a few more week".
Bruno Perra, winemaker from Maracalagonis: "Quality grapes also mean great wines: a good harvest throughout the territory".
The oenologist Raffaele Serreli: “A harvest according to the forecast of the eve, from Cagliaritano to Parteolla: excellent wines will be produced”.
Ferruccio Deiana di Settimo San Pietro, owner of the homonymous winery with a total vineyard area of 130 hectares, 55 of which in the countryside of Settimo, decided to embark on a challenge: "We also decided to bet on Malvasia with the three hectares. We have had special awards to show that the Malvasia di Settimo can and must still have its own space. Today production is reduced to a minimum ".
In this context, the Municipality of Settimo has been offering the Malvasia Festival for years. "This year", say the mayor Gigi Puddu and the councilor for agriculture Stefano Atzori, "the events blocked in the last two years by the pandemic will be re-proposed : in addition to the competition on local malvasia, various collateral initiatives will be organized to encourage participation popular. The appointment is scheduled for October ".
The harvest is also good in Sinnai, where the white grapes have already been harvested : in these days the harvest of Monica, Syrah and Cannonau has begun. “The area under vines”, says the councilor for agriculture Franco Orrù, “unfortunately is reduced to a minimum. Our programs include the relaunch of the sector, especially guaranteeing water in the fields: we have had more than one contact with the reclamation consortium. Only with water it will be possible to make a truly competitive agriculture and viticulture ”.
