A maximum of €5 per day is available for stays in Cagliari , if you choose a five-star hotel. However, this fee is not the same for everyone: it varies based on the type of accommodation and the time of year. This is what the Municipality of Cagliari established with the approval of the new tourist tax rates for 2026 , approved by the City Council at the end of December.

The steepest tax applies to five-star hotels, which will continue to levy a €5 tax per night, while the rate will gradually decrease as the star rating decreases: €1 for one-star hotels, €2 for two-star hotels, and €4 for four-star establishments . For non-hotel establishments, the tax will be €2 in the first, second, and fourth quarters of the year, rising to €3 in the third quarter , which is characterized by the highest tourist influx. Rates for youth hostels, however, will remain unchanged at €1.50.

The increases will take effect on April 1, 2026. The Municipality's decision takes into account the increased tourist presence in the city and the need to find new resources for cultural events, maintenance of the artistic and environmental heritage, local public services, and waste management. This adjustment was also agreed upon with the industry associations, which the municipal administration met with last month.
