Traffic is blocked between Viale Buoncammino and Piazza Arsenale for urgent renovations at Porta Cristina in Cagliari . Work will begin on Wednesday, July 30, and is scheduled to finish on August 13. Access to the Castello district will be possible from S'Avanzada and Via Porcell.
At the request of the Ministry of Culture - Directorate General of National Museums of Cagliari, which highlighted the need for urgent restoration work on the Porta Cristina arch , the Mobility, Road Infrastructure and Networks department of the Municipality of Cagliari has issued an ordinance closing the historic gate to traffic. Executive Ordinance 1893/2025, essential to allow for the work to be carried out safely, therefore provides for the closure of Porta Cristina to vehicular traffic and the mandatory left turn for cars going uphill from Via Fiume to the intersection with Viale Buoncammino. The same provision also provides for the opening of the ZTL gate at the Palazzo delle Seziate to be brought forward to 8:00 a.m.
Traffic on Viale Buoncammino, including and in the direction of Via Belvedere and Porta Cristina, will remain permitted for vehicles of the contractor, law enforcement vehicles, firefighters, and ambulances, as well as for access to driveways and for loading and unloading. Pedestrian paths and safe pedestrian transit will be maintained at all times, and adequate signage and alternative routes will be posted. Access to the Castello district during the ZTL hours will remain possible from the Via Porcell entrance toward Via dei Genovesi and from Via Ubaldo Badas (S'Avanzada) toward Piazza Indipendenza.
