Chico Pais, born Antonio Enrico, has passed away. He, who for over thirty years saved lives by driving an ambulance, made his last, desperate journey as a patient this morning: paramedics rushed him to Brotzu Hospital, where his heart stopped beating forever after a surgery that, sadly, proved unsuccessful.

A stroke that struck him while he was at the headquarters of his association in the Quartiere del Sole was fatal.

Chico Pais was 69 years old. An avid reader of political philosophy, a supporter of independence , and a lover of Sardinia, he was originally from Iglesias but had always lived and worked in Cagliari.

Here, in the capital, he was one of the pillars of the world of volunteering and emergency services. A veteran of the 118 emergency service: hundreds of Sardinians passed through his hands, and in the ambulances he drove, often owing their lives to his dedication . During the Covid period, he wasn't on the front lines: he was inside the epidemic, among infected people's homes and hospitals. He had a critical mind and attentive to the dynamics of emergencies, to what was working and what wasn't. Now he's passed away, leaving a void in the hearts of all those who worked with him.
