Thieves “caught” with their hands on books. The two men who acted around 11:45 pm on Monday under the arcades of via del Pozzetto stole over 300 texts: they made their loot by taking advantage of the bookcrossing initiative launched by Massimo Mameli, owner of Mamo Pizza, famous in the Quartiere del Sole (and not only) in Cagliari.

The books were available to everyone: a continuous flow of exchanges that had achieved a fair amount of success. But two of them decided to steal everything, thinking perhaps that they could resell the stolen goods.
Mameli addresses them, who were filmed by the cameras: «You spent an hour carefully choosing which books to take away, indifferent to the presence of the video surveillance cameras, which were also pointed exactly at you», he says.

One of the two, "who stopped for a few minutes to read the book sharing conditions, took away piles of books in several stages, loading them into a car parked in via del Pozzetto, while the other selected them without any hurry or fear of being discovered. You are two men, dark hair, about 35 years old, certainly not very respectful of other people's work, one of you smoked continuously and threw ash and cigarette butts on the floor cleaned a few hours before".

Mameli would not like to report: "But we do not want you to go back to plundering books either. I hope you read this post and bring back what you have stolen as soon as possible. Those who steal books probably do it for money and if they were to read them I am not sure they would fully understand the meaning".
