A high-voltage chase through the streets of Cagliari kept local police officers busy yesterday evening. Two eighteen-year-olds, aboard a Honda SH scooter, ignored the officers' stop and fled, starting a reckless race through the city streets.

After several minutes, the two attempted to abandon the vehicle to escape on foot, but were caught by the officers. A fight ensued, during which the boys managed to get back on the scooter and continue their escape. The race continued until the Basilica di Bonaria, where the young men finally abandoned the vehicle to attempt a last desperate escape on foot . The police, however, chased them and stopped them in Piazza dei Centomila, arresting them.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the driver, without a license, was a repeat offender in driving without a license and had hashish with him, which is why he was reported to the prefecture. Furthermore, the scooter on which they were traveling was reported as stolen, which is why it was seized.

By order of the prosecutor, the two young men were tried in a summary trial this morning : the judge validated the arrest and applied the precautionary measure of the obligation to sign for the driver.
