Monday 20 March or, at the latest, in ten days: the beginning of the revolution is imminent in via Roma, in Cagliari . The arcade side will be closed to traffic, the workers will start working on the central lane – now unused – to transform it into a tree-lined avenue. After the return of Sant'Efisio (May 4) the construction site for the new Piazza Matteotti will start.

Meanwhile, money is being sought to build the tunnel-trench that will swallow up the cars arriving from the western side (Statale 195 and via San Paolo) up to via Baylle.

"We will restore the old promenade to Cagliari, with lots of greenery and many spaces dedicated to socializing", explains the mayor Paolo Truzzu, "and this area", he adds, pointing to the strip of asphalt in the middle of the lanes traveled by cars, " it will no longer be a parking lot.

At the end of this first step of the redevelopment of the seafront, the road behind the buildings will no longer have four lanes: only two will remain. And the paving stones will be used to pave part of the new promenade.

"We will transform this part of the city, making it more modern and in step with the times, also recovering its original identity and enhancing all the buildings in the area". How long? "Thirteen, fourteen months of work," assures the mayor.

Cagliari will therefore have to live with a large construction site: «We all face sacrifices but we know that tomorrow we will have a more beautiful, livable and citizen-friendly city».
