The tennis club and the new sports hall in the Cuore car park, in Sant'Elia, are at risk .
The construction sites must open by August 31st, otherwise the funds (almost 45 million) from the Pnrr may not arrive . And Massimo Zedda was clear: «It is impossible to open the construction site by that date».
In recent days, a letter containing the ultimatum arrived in the Municipality and alarmed the mayor: the sender was the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Department for Sport. The letter highlights that there is "a delay in the start and execution of the works which could jeopardize the achievement of the goals and objectives of the Pnrr". The intervention will consequently be reported to the Pnrr mission structure and to the general inspectorate for the Pnrr. So the new times prescribed: start of the construction site by August 31st, other obligations by December 1st . Otherwise «the appropriate discussions will be initiated with the Pnrr Mission Structure, the General Inspectorate for the Pnrr and the European Commission also in order to evaluate the start of procedures aimed at defunding the intervention ».
Zedda today called a press conference, underlining that the priority is "to save the works" but at the same time admitting that "it is clearly impossible to open the construction site by August 31st" .
"If we find ourselves at this point there has clearly been some problem with respecting the deadlines", declares the mayor, pointing the finger at the previous municipal and regional councils. " Here every day we risk losing millions in funding ." Now begins a race against time and a tight negotiation with the government: «We have already spoken with the sports councilor Giuseppe Macciotta with the minister Abodi to try to find a solution».
There are approximately 45 million at stake: 40 for the arena that has been waiting for 15 years , a 6,000-seat facility for basketball, volleyball, table tennis, tennis and other disciplines, and 4.8 for the tennis club.
